Rapid viscoelastic spreading

چکیده
The addition of polymers is known to fundamentally affect capillary singularities such as drop pinch-off. In this study, we wonder how polymeric drops spread onto a solid. Although the dynamics liquid bridge connecting solid similar that pure water, find interface gets significantly sharper, which quantified by measuring curvature bridge. These findings are reminiscent what found for coalescence, even though spreading-coalescence analogy breaks down with viscoelastic liquids.

Rapid epigenetic adaptation to uncontrolled heterochromatin spreading
Heterochromatin, a highly compact chromatin state characterized by histone H3K9 methylation and HP1 protein binding, silences the underlying DNA and influences the expression of neighboring genes. However, the mechanisms that regulate heterochromatin spreading are not well understood. In this study, we show that the conserved Mst2 histone acetyltransferase complex in fission yeast regulates his...
متن کاملNeuronal networks provide rapid neuroprotection against spreading toxicity
Acute secondary neuronal cell death, as seen in neurodegenerative disease, cerebral ischemia (stroke) and traumatic brain injury (TBI), drives spreading neurotoxicity into surrounding, undamaged, brain areas. This spreading toxicity occurs via two mechanisms, synaptic toxicity through hyperactivity, and excitotoxicity following the accumulation of extracellular glutamate. To date, there are no ...
متن کاملRAPID COMMUNICA TIONS Myosin Rings and Spreading in Mouse Blastomeres
The relationship between myosin organization and cell spreading in the preimplantation mouse embryo was studied by indirect immunofluorescence in embryos cultured on lectin-coated substrates. Binding of cell surface polysaccharides to substrate-bound concanavalin A and wheat germ agglutinin induced changes in myosin distribution that resembled those which occur during cell-cell contact interact...
متن کاملRapid viscoelastic uplift in southeast Alaska caused by post-Little Ice Age glacial retreat
Our observations show that extreme uplift in southeast Alaska began about 1770 AD, with relative sea level (RSL) change to 5.7 m and current uplift rates to 32 mm/yr. This region experienced widespread glacial melting following the Little Ice Age (LIA), with the collapse of the Glacier Bay Icefield alone equivalent to 8 mm of global sea level rise. Geodynamic modelling links the uplift to post-...
متن کاملResponse of a bubble bearing viscoelastic fluid to rapid decompression: Implications for explosive volcanic eruptions
We conducted rapid decompression experiments using bubble-bearing viscoelastic fluid in a vertical shock tube. We varied vesicularity / and pressure difference between the inside Pg and the outside Po of the bubbles, DP=Pg Po, to understand the behavior of bubbly-magmas under rapid decompression. We find that the potential energy, which depends on the initial vesicularity /, Pg, and Po, determi...
